History
Following the foundation of Iran University of Medical Sciences, In 1985, on the proposal of Dr. Alireza Salek Moghaddam, the department of Microbiology and Immunology was established in the School of Medicine. In 1992, the Departments of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology from the Schools of Paramedicine and Health were joined to this department. Then the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Iran University of Medical Sciences was formed.
Dr. Alireza Salek Moghaddam was the first Chairman department and his supervision was continued until the dissociation of Departments of Microbiology and Immunology . During the management of Dr. Salek Moghaddam, the job positions for the staff department and academic members were ascertained Dr. Rezaii, Dr. Hakkak, Dr. Darani, Dr. Nowroozi and Dr. Masjedian were the permanent academic members at the beginning of Department of Bacteriology formation.
The first PhD candidates and the students of Master program in Microbiology were accepted in 2001 and 1998 , respectively.
In 2000, considering the expansion of the Department, Departments of Microbiology and Immunology were separated and the Department's duties were continued under the name of Department of Microbiology , Iran University of Medical Sciences.
The first chairman department of Microbiology was Dr. Nour Amir Mozaffari (2000-2005). Along with the developmental strategies of this department, the virology department was also separated in 2003, following which Dr. Abdolaziz Rastegar Lari was selected as chairman department during 2005-2007 and then this duty was allocated to Dr. Jamileh Nowroozi during 2007-2009.Then Dr. Gholamreza Irajian has been the chairman Department of Microbiology , Iran University of Medical Sciences for 10 years.
Then, from April 2018, Dr. Noor Amir Mozafari has been working as the director of the microbiology department of Iran University of Medical Sciences. From January 2019, Dr. Gholamreza Irajian was elected as the director of the microbiology department of Iran University of Medical Sciences , his supervision is still continued.
